Recipe for Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal from Scratch
A quick and nutritious breakfast
It's so hard to think of new things to make a toddler that taste good and are good for them. This morning I wanted oatmeal but needed to incorporate a fruit and didn't want the usual banana added to the finished product. Here is what I came up with.
Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal.
1 3/4 cups milk ( I used 1 %, you can use what you like)
1 cup old fashioned oats
2 cinnamon sticks pinch of salt
1 apple ( I used a golden delicious)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Toppings per your pref.. I use brown sugar and walnuts (and sometimes extra milk). I didn't add anything extra for the baby.
Heat the milk in a sauce pan over medium heat with the two cinnamon sticks. Peel the apple and grate it on a box grater into the milk mixture. Add the pinch of salt. Bring to a boil. Add the oats and cook 5-7 mins until desired tenderness. Remove from heat and add the vanilla. Add any toppings you like.
This was great tasting and the grated apples melted right into the oatmeal so if you need to sneak in a fruit for your child it's perfect.
